NE State High School Finals June 10 through 13
There will be 5 performances for the Nebraska High School Rodeo Finals in Valentine next week, June 11th through the 13th at the Cherry County Fairgrounds. An estimated 170 contestants an d their families will start to arrive on Wednesday the 10th with a welcome dinner and back-number ceremony at the former Shopko building at 5:30. Guest speaker will be Steven Dent. The public is invited to join for the ceremony and speaker. Queens competition will start on Wednesday at 9AM

Valentine Chamber Golf June 13th
The Valentine Chamber of commerce will host their annual fund-raising golf tournament on June 13th at Frederick Peak golf Course. Players have been selected for the East and West teams for the 48th Annual West Nebraska All-Star Football Game and the 42nd Annual West Nebraska All-Star Volleyball Game. Selected athletes were nominated by their respective high school coaches and selected by the All-Star coaches to participate. The 2026 West Nebraska All-Star Football Game will be played Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Bearcat Stadium at 11:00 am MDT, with the All-Star Volleyball Game being played at 3:00 p.m.

Walleye Egg Harvest Collects 97 Million Eggs
Reports to KVSH Radio indicate the fishing spawn egg harvest at Merritt Reservoir was very successful. Local Conservation officer Dana Miller was on the KVSH Comment program and reported Nebraska Game and Parks personnel had nets out for four nights over the past couple of weeks and caught 776 females on those four nights. 470 females were spawning and crews gathered 97 million walleye eggs to help populate fisheries in the state. The Mid-Nebraska Activities Conference has announced its 2025–2026 All-Conference Boys Basketball teams, recognizing standout performances from athletes across several conference schools. The women’s Husker Basketball team celebrated hearing their name called for the third consecutive year, when the 68 bids for the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship were announced during the ESPN Selection Show on Sunday evening. Boys Finish Great Season at 23 and 4

The Valentine boy's basketball team bested Hemingford Monday night in the district final game to earn a trip to the state tournament for the first time in 22 years. VMS Basketball Defeats Todd County
Thanks Brandi Daugherty The middle school boys' basketball team concluded its season on Tuesday night with a 43–33 victory over Todd County. 2 Sets of Siblings will compete for Badgers at State
Among the 12 Badger wrestlers that have qualified for individual state championships, there are two sets of siblings that will compete in Omaha this week. Bayley Burdick, a freshman on the girls’ team, has qualified for her first championships, while older brother Trevor is a returning state medalist as a junior. Middle School Basketball Competes Against Bennett County

In a look at middle school boys' basketball action, Monday night the A team game went into double overtime with the Bennett County Warriors pulling out a 44-47 win. Three Badgers finished in double figures with seventh grader Tilden Foster scoring the most points for his team. Lady Badgers Win SPVA Tournament, Boys Finish 3rd
The Valentine Lady Badgers were 3 and 0 in the South Platte Valley Association tournament that finished with final games on Saturday at North Platte Community College. Valentine defeated Hershey in the title game 44 to 33 to win the championship. The boys finished 3rd place with a 70 to 59 win over Hershey boys in the consolation game.

Isaac Cronin Sets VHS School Scoring Record.
Valentine Senior Isaac Cronin scored 42 points in the game against Chase County in the first Round of the South Platte Valley Conference Tournament on Tuesday. With lots of assists from teammates, Cronin had 3 slam dunks, 4 three pointers and was 10 of 13 from the free throw line. Andon Olson held the previous record. The Valentine badger wrestling teams hosted a triangular with Gothenburg and Broken Bow on Thursday evening. The boys dualled both teams, but the girls only had one dual against Broken Bow. The girls won the contest 48 to 30 over the Indians. In the boy’s duals, Valentine beat the Swedes 40 to 32 and lost to the Indians 44 to 33.
