The Valentine Chamber of Commerce has decided to postpone the Cork Thorton Memorial Ice Fishing Tournament.  They will shoot for March 6 and 7th depending on ice conditions. This is a major annual fund-raising event that usually brings 40 or more teams to Valentine in the dead of winter.   With unseasonally warmer weather, there is virtually no ice on most, if not all area lakes. Four Nebraska volleyball players were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Teams, Nebraska Athletics said Wednesday. The Nebraska football team has been selected to play in the 2025 SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl, marking the Huskers’ second consecutive postseason trip. After tabulating all the cards for the 2025 Pigskin Prediction contest, KVSH has determined the overall winners for the year. With 14 weeks of the contest dating back to the end of August, there should have been a total of 140 games to choose from. After completing the Big Ten’s first 20-0 campaign since 2009, the Nebraska volleyball program was well represented in the Big Ten Volleyball Postseason Honors announced on Tuesday.  Junior setter  Bergen Reilly  was named the Big Ten Player of the Year and Big Ten Setter of the Year. The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team capped an unbeaten regular season with a 25-16, 25-13, 25-20 sweep in front of 8,461 at  John Cook  Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday night.  Nebraska (30-0, 20-0 Big Ten) finished the regular season unbeaten for the third time in school history (1994 and 2000), dropping only seven sets overall and one in Big Ten play.   The Huskers became the first Big Ten team to go 20-0 in conference play since Penn State in 2009. The rodeo and horse world have been put on hold with an outbreak of EHV-1 virus in horses.  KVSH News talked with Lindsey Adamson Taylor, who is originally from Cody and is currently finishing her veterinarian residency. Somebody was going to win its first state championship in program history on Friday night in Kearney. When the dust settled on an exciting Six-Man season, Garden County outlasted Southwest to claim its first state championship in program history with a 41-22 victory over Southwest at Ron and Carol Cope Stadium on the UNK campus.  Garden County finishes a perfect season at 12 and 0.  Southwest finishes at 11 and 1. The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team clinched the outright Big Ten title with a 25-19, 25-16, 25-22 win at No. 17 Indiana in front of a crowd of 2,832 at Wilkinson Hall on Saturday night.  Nebraska has won 37 conference titles all-time, including six in the Big Ten (2011, 2016, 2017, 2023, 2024, 2025). Hunters and landowners are encouraged to offer their feedback on big game information during the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s public meetings in December and January. These 2½-hour meetings are scheduled in each Game and Parks district. All in-person meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. local time. A couple of college football games this past weekend fooled some of the participants in the KVSH football prediction contest. Oklahoma beating Alabama was the most prevalent, and Jacksonville State beating Kennesaw State was the other.  The top two games on the card were thrown out as they had been played earlier last week. The Nebraska Firearm deer permits are disappearing rather quickly with the season a little over one week away. The season begins on November 15th.  KVSH has been monitoring the remaining permit numbers through Nebraska Game and Parks.  In the Sandhills Unit there are only 86 remaining permits out of 1,020 allotted.   In the Keya Paha Unit, there are currently 710 permits remaining from the total of 2,000.  Calamus West has 215 permits left from an allotment of 1190.  That num

It was the roughest week so far in the KVSH Pigskin Prediction Contest.  With losses by Auburn, Tennessee, Boise State and Nebraska, it took a card with only three wrong to win.  There were 18 cards with 4 wrong, 26 cards with 5 misses and another 26 cards with 6 wrong.  Numerous people missed seven or even 8 on the card. J.T. Adamson of Cody won the Calf Roping average at the Badland Circuit Finals Pro Rodeo this past weekend in Minot North Dakota. JT tied for 4th place in the first go-round with a time of 9.8 second. He was also 4th in the 2nd go with a time of 10 flat.  Adamson won the third round with a time of 8.1 to seal the average title with 27.9 seconds on three head. The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team began a stretch of three straight road matches with a sweep win at No. 12 Purdue on Sunday in front of 2,415 at Holloway Gymnasium.  The Huskers (16-0, 6-0 Big Ten) won by sweep for the seventh match in a row, thanks to big performances from  Harper Murray  and  Andi Jackson .
