Reports to KVSH Radio indicate the fishing spawn egg harvest at Merritt Reservoir was very successful. Local Conservation officer Dana Miller was on the KVSH Comment program and reported Nebraska Game and Parks personnel had nets out for four nights over the past couple of weeks and caught 776 females on those four nights. 470 females were spawning and crews gathered 97 million walleye eggs to help populate fisheries in the state. Officials reported that the harvest seemed to be a little ahead of schedule this year, possibly due to warmer temperatures and mild winter. That 97 million is what is needed for statewide production.
The spawn would indicate a healthy population of walleye in Merritt and potential good fishing this season.
