Pavelka to Retire from Play By Play

The announcement came during a recent Huskers basketball game

It’s the end of an era for basketball in Lincoln.

In an announcement ahead of Nebraska Basketball’s game against Kansas State, longtime Men’s Basketball play-by-play announcer Kent Pavelka announced his retirement at the end of Nebraska’s 2026-27 basketball season.

In a career beginning in 1972, Pavelka has been the voice of Husker Basketball since 2006, he was also on the call for Husker Basketball from 1974 to 1996.

Inducted into the Nebraska Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame in 2019, Pavelka also had a run as a Husker Football commentator from 1974 to 1996.
