Childcare Facility to Open January 5th
Tuesday evening The Valentine Children and Families Coalition unveiled the new childcare facility in Valentine. Afternoon two years of planning and construction, Director Jill Austin told KVSH news that the facility will open on January 5th at the Episcopal Church on North Main Street in Valentine. For only the second time in 2025, the overall Rural Mainstreet Index (RMI) climbed above growth neutral 50.0, according to the monthly survey of bank CEOs in rural areas of a 10-state region dependent on agriculture and/or energy. BSH Kiglore vs. Cherry County Postponed
The case in Cherry County District Court on Friday in the litigation filed by Bluestem Sandhills Kilgore against Cherry County, turned out to be a non-event. Scheduled for an 11:30 start time, the case had to be postponed because of technical issues. The “remote” hearing, linking all the parties did not come together as planned. A new date has been set for January 16th at 10:30AM for another Zoom link hearing.

Lawsuit Against County on Friday
District Judge Mark Kozicek will hear some familiar information Friday morning when the lawsuit by Bluestem Sandhills Kilgore LLC against Cherry County Board of Commissioners, the Cherry County Board of Adjustment and Jane Stolzenberg in her former capacity as Cherry County Zoning administrator. The suit was filed in September by BSH Kilgore asking the court to uphold the Conditional Use Permit that it had previously granted for construction of a small wind farm near Kilgore.

One Vehicle Accident Causes Small Grass Fire Near Mission
The accident took place just before noon on Wednesday. Emergency crews responded to a one vehicle accident about 5 miles east of Mission Wednesday morning. According to Mission Fire officials, a pickup truck struck a power pole at about 11:45 Wednesday, which led to a small grass fire which was quickly contained by area firemen. High Winds in KVSH Area Lead To Minimal Interruptions In Electric Service
Winds were gusting at over 60 miles per hour in parts of the KVSH listening area Thursday. High winds have wreaked havoc in the KVSH listening area. Several branches were reported down around Valentine. A representative at KBR Rural Public Power in Ainsworth stated that so far there was only one “very localized” power outage that affected the KBR service area.
