Governor Jim Pillen issued a statement in reaction to the death of 31 year old Charlie Kirk, saying "The news of Charlie Kirk's assassination is devastating, not only for conservatives, but for supporters of liberty and free expression everywhere. He inspired countless young people with his principled activism, including on campus right here in Nebraska." US flags are to be flown at half staff until sundown on Sunday September 14th.
Nebraska Tourism is looking for a new executive director after the resignation of John Ricks at their meeting earlier this week. The commission hopes to have the position filled by 2026.
Four people were arrested in Merrick County. The four are thought to be connected to a home invasion and assault. Of the 4 arrested, the only name released was Jennifer Arends, age 46 of Columbus. The other 3 were juveniles.
An officer with Kearney Police Department was injured in a motor vehicle accident when his cruiser crashed into a Buffalo County Sheriff's Deputy vehicle. The two were apparently responding to a medical emergency call when the crash took place. The officer was transported to a hospital after extrication with non-life threatening injuries, and the deputy was reportedly not injured.
