The Valentine Lady Badgers wrestling team finished in 3rd place overall at the District B4 wrestling tournament held in Ogallala on February 6th and 7th. there were 36 schools represented ranging from Wayne and Fort Calhoon to Bayard and Bridgeport. The Badger's entered 11 girls in the tournament with over half qualifying for state on February 17th and 18th in Omaha. Several Certification Classes Will Be Held In Nebraska The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will certify Youth Fishing Instructors at five locations across the state this spring. These instructors, who will become part of Game and Parks’ Youth Fishing Program, will receive training and tools to conduct youth fishing clinics. In a look at middle school boys' basketball action, Monday night the A team game went into double overtime with the Bennett County Warriors pulling out a 44-47 win. Three Badgers finished in double figures with seventh grader Tilden Foster scoring the most points for his team. Earlier in the evening, Valentine had big wins with the C team winning 11-2 and the B team dominating 46-15.

The Valentine Lady Badgers were 3 and 0 in the South Platte Valley Association tournament that finished with final games on Saturday at North Platte Community College. Valentine defeated Hershey in the title game 44 to 33 to win the championship. The boys finished 3rd place with a 70 to 59 win over Hershey boys in the consolation game.

Valentine Senior Isaac Cronin scored 42 points in the game against Chase County in the first Round of the South Platte Valley Conference Tournament on Tuesday. With lots of assists from teammates, Cronin had 3 slam dunks, 4 three pointers and was 10 of 13 from the free throw line. Andon Olson held the previous record. Cronin was named the KVSH Farm Bureau player of the game for his record setting efforts. The boys won 67 to 54 and will play Bridgeport Friday night at 5PM CT

The Valentine badger wrestling teams hosted a triangular with Gothenburg and Broken Bow on Thursday evening.  The boys dualled both teams, but the girls only had one dual against Broken Bow. The girls won the contest 48 to 30 over the Indians. In the boy’s duals, Valentine beat the Swedes  40 to 32 and lost to the Indians 44 to 33. The Valentine Chamber of Commerce has decided to postpone the Cork Thorton Memorial Ice Fishing Tournament.  They will shoot for March 6 and 7th depending on ice conditions. This is a major annual fund-raising event that usually brings 40 or more teams to Valentine in the dead of winter.   With unseasonally warmer weather, there is virtually no ice on most, if not all area lakes.
