24 Truckloads Moving Through Valentine

24 Truckloads of hay from Kingsbury County SD Cattlemen, were moving through Valentine Tuesday to aid those who lost hay and pasture in wildfires last month in Southwest Nebraska. Organizer Laurie Casper told KVSH News that the hay would be split in the Arthur, Lakeside and Oshkosh areas. The convoy left Lake Preston, South Dakota at 6AM and passed through Valentine right about noon and proceeded South on Highway 83.

This is the groups second trip, having donated over 1,050 bales of hay and the trucking. Drivers donated thier own time to make the trip. Casper stated that farmers and ranchers from 6 communities came together to help producers who have lost hay and pasture in recent wildfires. In total, there have been 41 loads of hay donated and delivered

After this trip, the total number of miles driven to haul the hay will be just shy of 40,000 miles. This trip alone will be 24 trucks travelling 1,100 miles each.

Multiple local residents lined Main Street to show their support. The Cherry County Sheriffs Office and Valentine Police Department provided an escort and traffic control as the relief convoy rolled through the Heart City. One bystander stated "it sure makes you proud to live in the part of the country we live in"

Thank you South Dakota.
