Area Firemen Respond To Another Fire In The East Anderson Bridge Road Area
The fire was reported just before 8am MT Tuesday The Kilgore Fire Department was paged to the report of a grass fire south of Kilgore on East Anderson Bridge Road just before 9am Central Time on Tuesday morning. Mutual aid was requested to Cody and Valentine departments shortly after, and the initial attack plan involved aerial support as well. The Memorial Cruise June 20th
No this classic will not be cruising. Over 35 years ago, a group of car guys got together and decided there needed to be a classic motor club in Valentine. Several of the Valentine Classic Motor Clubs founding members have since passed away. To honor those members, like Jack Monroe, Bruce and Gerry Shleve(shlee-vee) it was decided there should be a memorial cruise. Emergency Crews Respond To Fatal Traffic Incident In Valentine
The accident took place early June 6th According to the Valentine Police Department, on June 6th, at approximately 1:20 AM, the Valentine Police Department, along with the Cherry County Sheriff's Office, responded to a motor vehicle accident in the 300 block of West 3rd Street. Liberty's Fireworks To Sponsor Annual Independence Day Parade

NE State High School Finals June 10 through 13
There will be 5 performances for the Nebraska High School Rodeo Finals in Valentine next week, June 11th through the 13th at the Cherry County Fairgrounds. An estimated 170 contestants an d their families will start to arrive on Wednesday the 10th with a welcome dinner and back-number ceremony at the former Shopko building at 5:30. The Valentine Chamber of commerce will host their annual fund-raising golf tournament on June 13th at Frederick Peak golf Course. The "soft launch" will be June 20 in Valentine The newly revived Valentine Farmers Market will open for the season on June 20 from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm CT at the Prairie Commons parking lot (which is Bomgaars/IGA/Pizza Hut). County Posts Tax Valuations
Cherry County Assessor Melissa Bancroft reported that the 2026 tax assessment roll is complete and notice of valuation changes have been mailed to property owners. Valuation protests may be filed with the Cherry County Board of Equalization until June 30th. Statute states that these ratios be made public on or before June 6th. Cattle Battle This Weekend
The 2026 Heart City Cattle Battle will be this Friday and Saturday at the Cherry County Fairgrounds. This annual youth centered event includes a fitting clinic, judging clinic, showmanship for senior intermediate, junior and peewee categories. RN Theory Classes to be Offered in Valentine
Mid Plains Community College Campus in Valentine will be able to begin offering the Registered Nurse Theory classes this year at the local campus. In the past they only offered LPN classes. In the past, students would have to attend classes in North Platte to pursue the RN degree. Local students may still have to attend clinicals in North Platte. Grass Fire Overnight Burns Small Area Of Grass Monday Night
The fire was thought to have been caused by a power line issue. Another grass fire around midnight Monday night led to another outing by the Valentine Volunteer Fire Department and Cherry County Hospital Ambulance Service. According to Chief Terry Engels, the fire was likely caused by power line issues, and burned only a small amount of grass near Birch Street on the southwest corner of Valentine.

Quick Response By Area Firemen Keeps Acreage To A Minimum In Smith Falls Road Fire
Multiple departments responded to the fire Sunday south of Highway 12. Just after 2pm, the Valentine Volunteer Fire Department responded to the report of a large, fast moving fire in the canyon area south of Highway 12 just off of Smith Falls Road. The scholarship reception will be Tuesday, June 10 Valentine, Neb. — The Sandhills Area Foundation (SAF) invites the public to attend its annual Scholarship Reception on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Mid-Plains Community College. Valentine City Pool To Open Monday
Cool temperatures prevented the pool from opening on Memorial Day. Cooler temperatures last week prevented the water at the Valentine City Pool to warm up enough to allow the Aquatic Center to open on their regularly scheduled opening day on Memorial Day Monday.
