North central RC&D Awarded 2 Tire Amnesty Grants for 2026
The North Central Resource and Conservation District was informed this week that they have had two tire amnesty recycling grants approved for 2026. One grant will cover an event in Springview and the other will be in the O’Neill area. Last year the tire recycling was held in Valentine, and the response filled the 200-ton limit in less than one day, meaning some interested parties did not get to drop off their old tires. Commissioners Regular Meeting
After reviewing applications at Tuesday’s meeting, the Cherry County Commissioners voted to extend an offer to Katie Ormesher for the Cherry county Zoning Administrator position. The position opened after former administrator Jane Stolzenberg submitted her resignation effective at the end of October. As a side note, the lawsuit against the county and zoning administrator will be in district court on the 19th. This was not discussed at Tuesday regular meeting. In other news

Huskers Bowl Against Utah Dec 31
The Nebraska football team has been selected to play in the 2025 SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl, marking the Huskers’ second consecutive postseason trip. Nebraska will meet Utah in the game, which is set for Wednesday, Dec. 31 at Allegiant Stadium. The game will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT (12:30 p.m. PT) with ESPN providing the television coverage. Jocille Brinda and Bobbie Jo Roshone were recognized for their years of service with the Cherry County Ambulance Service. At their regular monthly meeting, the Cherry County Ambulance Service recognized a couple of their EMS personnel for their many years of dedication to the area with the organization. Firearm Deer Harvest Down
Preliminary results from the 2025 Nebraska November firearm deer season show statewide harvest fell 7% from 2024, which was expected, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Harvest went from 28,056 last year to 26,029 this year. Valentine's One Act Team did well at Districts in Bridgeport The Valentine High School One Act team finished their season with district competition in Bridgeport. The team earned 4th place, with the technical crew receiving third place. Praise Maunu and Camilla Brown were recognized as the outstanding actors from Valentine, and Camilla Brown was awarded one of two NSAA Outstanding Actor medals for the entire competition. After completing the Big Ten’s first 20-0 campaign since 2009, the Nebraska volleyball program was well represented in the Big Ten Volleyball Postseason Honors announced on Tuesday. Disabled Veterans In Nebraska To Qualify For Tax Exemption On Vehicle Registration in 2026.
LB 650 allows disabled veterans to apply for tax exemption on their primary transportation. LB 650 recently passed the Nebraska Unicameral allowing disabled veterans an opportunity to receive a tax exemption for their primary transportation vehicle.
