The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team capped an unbeaten regular season with a 25-16, 25-13, 25-20 sweep in front of 8,461 at John Cook Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday night.
Nebraska (30-0, 20-0 Big Ten) finished the regular season unbeaten for the third time in school history (1994 and 2000), dropping only seven sets overall and one in Big Ten play.
The Huskers became the first Big Ten team to go 20-0 in conference play since Penn State in 2009. Wisconsin went 15-0 in Big Ten play in the Covid-shortened season played in spring 2021. It was the Huskers' first unbeaten conference season since 2004 in the Big 12.
The volleyball team was selected as the No. 1 overall seed for the 2025 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship on Sunday night and will host the first and second rounds at John Cook Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center this Friday and Saturday.
The Huskers, making their 44th straight NCAA Tournament appearance and hosting the first round for the 40th time, will open the tournament on Friday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. against Long Island (20-8), champions of the Northeast Conference. The 4:30 p.m. match will feature San Diego (25-4) of the West Coast Conference and Kansas State (17-9) of the Big 12. Friday's winners will meet in the second round on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. Games can be heard right here on KVSH this weekend.
Emmett Johnson rushed for a career-high 217 yards, but it was not enough in Nebraska's 40-16 loss to Iowa at Memorial Stadium on Friday.
Johnson carried 19 times for 177 yards and a touchdown in the first-half alone, including a career-long 70-yard sprint down the Nebraska sideline on the Big Red's opening drive to set up his own 1-yard touchdown plunge one play later to give the Huskers a 7-0 lead less than five minutes into the game.
Nebraska, which slipped to 7-5 on the season and ended Big Ten Conference play at 4-5.
Nebraska's offense mustered just 69 yards in the second half.
