Firemen remain busy Sunday

It's been over a week since the initial call came in reporting a fire south of Kilgore in the Anderson Bridge area, and area firemen have been busy keeping it and other area fires under control. Valentine Fire Chief Terry Engels stated that on Sunday, airplanes were being utilized to help put out a pocket that was burning in the Anderson Bridge fire area, and at about 1pm, Valentine Firemen were requested to assist with a fire north of the Nebraska-South Dakota state line that was burning near Littleburg road. According to radio traffic, The Cherry County Sheriff's Office had highway 83 was closed to traffic for a short time at the state line, allowing local traffic only due to dangerous conditions as heavy smoke crossed Highway 83. About 20 acres burned in that blaze that was battled by Valentine, BIA and Mission Volunteer Fire Departments. Then at about 10:15 that evening, another call went out, this time for a one vehicle traffic accident just west of Valentine. Cherry County Sheriff's deputies as well as Cherry County Hospital Ambulance Service responded to that call as well. No other information was available regarding that call. Stay tuned to KVSH Radio for any other updates, and remain vigilant as hazardous fire weather remains in the KVSH area forecast this week.
