The Cherry County Fair wrapped up on Sunday with the Family Fun Day. On Saturday the 4-H livestock sale was well attended with numerous buyers. Unofficially the top volume buyers were Sandhill Oil and Security 1st Bank. Other top buyers, supporting the 4-H kids were Danielski Farming and Speedee Mart, Heart City Durg, Valentine Livestock auction, Valentine Dental and Sandhills Family Dental.
The top steer sold was a purple ribbon winner shown by Kade Arganbright which brought $6,750. another purple ribbon steer shown by Liam Tenhouse also brought $6,750. Liams sibling had been injured earlier at the fair around the livestock barn. A purple ribbon hog shown by Wesley Willert brought a premium of $2,800 which Wesley donates to the 4-H Foundation each year.
The Sparks Nebraska Spur Cowboy Fast Draw group held a Town Folk Alley where fairgoers could try their hand at fast draw. A competition was held to hit a 2 inch target with the prospect to win a 45 long colt pistol form the shooting group. Of the few people who did hit the target, Cindy Weller of rural Valentine had her name drawn for the pistol. Youth had the same opportunity to compete for a revolver BB gun. That competition was won by Heath Larsen of Dunning who took home the BB gun.
There were lots of entries for the KVSH Griddle Giveaway at the fair. There was no cost to register for the griddle, some beef and seasonings. The name drawn on the KVSH Comment program was Hannah Haumann of Valentine. Hannah registered just one time while at the Cherry County Fair.
A big thank you from KVSH Radio to the members of the Cherry County Ag society and their spouses, who worked hard to have a great fair. Also, to Michele Garwood and all the 4-H people like Eve and Cindy who provided us with results and information about the fair activities.
Congratulations to all the 4-H participants on a successful year of hard work.
