July Retail Sales Up for Valentine
Valentine and Cherry County finally had two months in a row where retail sales were on the positive side. In July, the latest month figures are available, Valentine retail net taxable sales were reported at 9.7 million dollars compared to 9.2 million in 2024. This is an increase of 5.7%. Trump Talks Beef Prices
President Donald Trump said the United States could buy Argentine beef in an attempt to bring down prices for American consumers. Trump promised days earlier to address the issue as part of his efforts to keep inflation in check. Memorial service for Steve Lurz, age 62 of Kilgore will be held on Friday, Oct. 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines. KVSH Pigskin Prediction
Loyalty in the KVSH Pigskin Prediction contest this week cost almost everyone at least one wrong on their card. There were sixteen cards that only missed the Nebraska game, so kudos to them for staying loyal. The Penn State loss to Iowa and Cody Kilgore loss to Sioux County were a couple of the most missed games on this week's card. There was one perfect card this week. Two Comets Visible
Two bright green comets are streaming through the skies and are visible to skygazers in the Northern Hemisphere. 4th Street Construction to be done soon
The construction project on West 4th Street (HWY 83 North) is nearing completion. Placement of the concrete roadway and sidewalks is complete. Soon the countdown traffic signals will be retired, and normal traffic conditions will resume. Update Remains Found at Scottsbluff
Authorities say a forensic examination of the skeletal human remains discovered Friday on the north side of the Scotts Bluff National Monument has yet to take place, but circumstantial evidence suggests the body may be that of a missing Moorcroft, Wyoming man. Hospital 50th Anniversary
The Cherry County Hospital is celebrated its 50th anniversary at the location on Green Street Wednesday afternoon with coffee and cookies. Members of the public were invited to reminisce with former staff, doctors and administrators during the event. They also had several displays from the hospital over the years. 50th Celebration for CCH
The Cherry County Hospital is celebrating its 50th anniversary at the location on Green Street this afternoon with coffee and cookies from 4 to 7PM. The original Sandhills General Hospital was a two-story building run by Father Blaire and operated by two sisters in 1912. Adamson Wins Tie Down at Badlands Circuit
J.T. Adamson of Cody won the Calf Roping average at the Badland Circuit Finals Pro Rodeo this past weekend in Minot North Dakota. JT tied for 4th place in the first go-round with a time of 9.8 second. He was also 4th in the 2nd go with a time of 10 flat. It's Time Valentine Fund Raising
It’s Time Valentine fund raising efforts continued Saturday night with the reverse raffle held at the former Shopko Building in Valentine. There were 260 tickets sold, so the jackpot was a total of $11,000. Tickets were removed from the board in a countdown fashion until the top ten were left.
