After reviewing applications at Tuesday’s meeting, the Cherry County Commissioners voted to extend an offer to Katie Ormesher for the Cherry county Zoning Administrator position.
The position opened after former administrator Jane Stolzenberg submitted her resignation effective at the end of October. As a side note, the lawsuit against the county and zoning administrator will be in district court on the 19th. This was not discussed at Tuesday regular meeting.
In other news from the commissioner meeting, they discussed the Veterans Memorial Committee Display. Don Nelson had submitted a request on behalf of the committee to recognize the seven individuals who committed time and money to get the Veterans Memorial completed. Those committee members include Jim Edward, Bill Marshall, John Ravenscroft, Bob Stetter and now deceased Dr. Dick Jeffers and Larry Johnson. They requested that a picture of these committee members be placed at the Courthouse for a period of one year. A plaque with these members will be put on display.
The commissioners also voted to hire two building inspectors to assess the structure. Once they get that information, they can proceed either to pursue restoration or demolition. The Commissioners would like to let the public decide.
Mark Hagge of Valentine Economic Development, representing the Creative District met with the board to discuss possible uses for the old post office building across the street from the courthouse complex. The Creative District Designation would lead to some possible funding to repurpose the building for creative endeavors. This will be an ongoing dialogue.
