Area residents are urged to use extra caution, especially in the early morning and late evening hours, after another mountain lion sighting. The Cherry County Dispatch notified KVSH News, telling us about a mountain lion that was spotted at the City Park on Sunday night at about 9pm. KVSH News has also been in contact with a local family that has reportedly captured images of a probably mountain lion on the doorstep of their home on the north edge of town. According to a social media post from the Valentine Police Department, Late (Sunday) night an officer sighted a mountain lion on the park loop road east of the city park. Further sightings were reported by a camper in the park, who observed the lion at the pond to the west of the fish hatchery.
The police department, along with the Cherry County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, are working to address this problem. Until then, we would discourage anyone from walking the park loop road.
Please report any sightings to the Police Department or Sheriff’s Office at (402)376-1890. Stay tuned for any new developments in this story.
