The unconfirmed report came in to the Cherry County Dispatch around 2pm Thursday.

According to Jamon Slama, Chief of Police in Valentine, the police department received a call at about 2pm on Thursday afternoon regarding another possible mountain lion sighting.  The unconfirmed report indicated the big cat seen near the mill pond at about that time.  This follows an earlier confirmed sighting on Friday evening and subsequent unconfirmed sightings over the weekend. Slama states that the department has notified the Nebraska Game and Parks department about the report, and they are continuing to monitor the situation.  In the meantime, residents are still urged to exercise caution in the area, especially in the early morning and late afternoon hours.  If you do have any sightings, images or prints to report, please contact the Valentine Police Department or the Cherry County Sheriff’s Office, and do NOT approach the animal. Cherry County Sheriff Rusty Osburn stated that NG&P officials searched the area and could find no prints or other evidence of the big cat on Thursday.
