Every September, the rodeo arena in North Platte transforms into more than just a competition ground—it becomes a place of joy, inclusion, and unforgettable memories. On September 10, the Wild West Arena hosted the 14th annual Partner Up Rodeo, an event where high school and junior high rodeo athletes, parents, volunteers, and community members join forces to give young people with disabilities the chance to experience the western way of life.

This year’s event welcomed 221 students, ages kindergarten through 21, from more than 20 school districts, with some traveling up to three hours to attend. It was the largest Partner Up Rodeo yet, continuing a tradition that has grown steadily since its start with the support of the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association.

Out of more than 120 volunteers, an impressive 67 were junior high and high school rodeo athletes who traded in their competitive edge to share their skills and spirit. Among those 67 volunteers were 9 Valentine High School students who made a special effort to attend. Those that attended where Colter Austin, Trevor Burdick, Parker Chavez, Laken Krogman, Tierney Miller, Tygh Miller, and Deklin Titus. They represented not only their school & teams, but the Valentine community well, said Jill Joseph-Austin, Nebraska High School Rodeo Secretary

The event wouldn’t be possible without the support of the Mid Plains Community College Rodeo Team and more than 100 community volunteers who donate horses, wagons, supplies, and their time to bring the experience to life.
