While state lawmakers continue to work on putting together a budget one item included as an amendment to the budget bill would include funds for a scenic Nebraska river. State Senator Barry DeKay of Niobrara, said the amendment would restore funding to protect the Niobrara River.
The amendment would reinstate $34,000 in funding to the Niobrara Council for its operations and to defend it conservation easements, DeKay said. The Niobrara Council was formed in 1997 to assist the National Park Service in managing and protecting the Niobrara National Scenic River Resources in Brown, Cherry, Keya Paha and Rock Counties.
The amendment was introduced by State Senator Tanya Storer of Whitman.
