State Transportation officials say 17 people lost their lives on Nebraska roadways in the month of October, down significantly from the 25 fatalities recorded the same time last year. Of the 12 vehicle occupants killed, five were not restrained, two were using a seat belt and five others were unknown. Family members of a missing Moorcroft, Wyoming man say forensic testing confirms a  body found at the Scotts Bluff National Monument last month  is Chance Englebert. The Facebook post  continues that “the State Attorney will do a press release Wednesday,” after which Chance’s remains will be released to his family. The post said the positive identification is not any type of closure, and there will just always be more questions.

The Cherry County Ag Society held their annual election of members last night at the 4-H building in Valentine. There were 27 people in attendance who were all eligible to nominate and vote for board members.  There were four current members whose terms were up, Clete Scheer, Shaylee Arendt, Richard Schrunk and Neal Wescott. Shannon Dunham was recently sentenced to federal prison, according to the US Attorney's Office. US Attorney's Office, District of South Dakota - United States Attorney Ron Parsons announced today that U.S. District Judge Eric C. Schulte has sentenced a man from Mission, South Dakota, convicted of Assaulting, Resisting, and Impeding a Federal Officer.  The sentencing took place on November 12, 2025. A few upsets in college football this past weekend caused some minor troubles in the KVSH Pigskin Prediction contest.  Pittsburg beating Georgia Tech and Nebraska’s loss to Penn State were the two main culprits. Somebody was going to win its first state championship in program history on Friday night in Kearney. When the dust settled on an exciting Six-Man season, Garden County outlasted Southwest to claim its first state championship in program history with a 41-22 victory over Southwest at Ron and Carol Cope Stadium on the UNK campus.  Garden County finishes a perfect season at 12 and 0.  Southwest finishes at 11 and 1. The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team clinched the outright Big Ten title with a 25-19, 25-16, 25-22 win at No. 17 Indiana in front of a crowd of 2,832 at Wilkinson Hall on Saturday night.  Nebraska has won 37 conference titles all-time, including six in the Big Ten (2011, 2016, 2017, 2023, 2024, 2025). City Manager Shane Seiwart states that the chlorination continues out of an abundance of caution. KVSH News reported earlier that the City of Valentine began adding chlorine to the municipal water supply on November 14. According to a release from the city, recent routine testing had identified a limited number of positive results for coliform bacteria in the distribution system. The outage should begin around 2pm Thursday. According to officials with CPPD, there will be a planned power outage beginning at about 2pm Thursday, November 20. Custer Public Power states that this planned outage would affect customers in the Thedford, Seneca and Mullen areas for a couple hours as they do some pre-winter preparations and do some fixes while the weather is still mild. KVSH radio confirmed with local Nebraska Game and Parks Conservation Officers that they are looking for information about the illegal killing of a white-tailed buck in Cherry County at McKelvie National Forest.  The incident reportedly occurred around November 14th or 15th  in Cherry County.  The 15th was the opening of the firearm deer season in Nebraska.  A reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest.  Contact Conservation Officer frank Miller at 402 389 04

The number of athletes out for winter sports look strong in basketball and girls wrestling but are a little slimmer in boys wrestling. Valentine did fairly well in retail sales in the months of July and August when compared to some other peer communities. In July Valentine had a slight bump in sales when compared to 2024 with a 5.7% increase.  In August it took another slight increase of 6.3% compared to a year earlier.
