October Traffic Fatalities Down in NE
State Transportation officials say 17 people lost their lives on Nebraska roadways in the month of October, down significantly from the 25 fatalities recorded the same time last year. Of the 12 vehicle occupants killed, five were not restrained, two were using a seat belt and five others were unknown. Two fatalities were pedestrians, two were motorcyclists, and one was riding an electric tricycle. To date, 182 people have died on Nebraska roads, nearly 18 percent fewer than t

Equine EHV-1 Puts Hold on Events
The rodeo and horse world have been put on hold with an outbreak of EHV-1 virus in horses. KVSH News talked with Lindsey Adamson Taylor, who is originally from Cody and is currently finishing her veterinarian residency. Remains Identified as Chance Engelbert
Family members of a missing Moorcroft, Wyoming man say forensic testing confirms a body found at the Scotts Bluff National Monument last month is Chance Englebert. The Facebook post continues that “the State Attorney will do a press release Wednesday,” after which Chance’s remains will be released to his family. The post said the positive identification is not any type of closure, and there will just always be more questions.

2 New Members Elected to Cherry County Ag Society
The Cherry County Ag Society held their annual election of members last night at the 4-H building in Valentine. There were 27 people in attendance who were all eligible to nominate and vote for board members. There were four current members whose terms were up, Clete Scheer, Shaylee Arendt, Richard Schrunk and Neal Wescott. Scheer and Arendt did not seek reelection. Valentine Firemen Respond To Smoke Smell Monday Morning

Mission Man Convicted Of Assaulting A Federal Officer
Shannon Dunham was recently sentenced to federal prison, according to the US Attorney's Office. US Attorney's Office, District of South Dakota - United States Attorney Ron Parsons announced today that U.S. District Judge Eric C. Schulte has sentenced a man from Mission, South Dakota, convicted of Assaulting, Resisting, and Impeding a Federal Officer. The sentencing took place on November 12, 2025. Garden County Wins 6-man Championship
Somebody was going to win its first state championship in program history on Friday night in Kearney. When the dust settled on an exciting Six-Man season, Garden County outlasted Southwest to claim its first state championship in program history with a 41-22 victory over Southwest at Ron and Carol Cope Stadium on the UNK campus. Chlorination Continues For Valentine's Water Supply
City Manager Shane Seiwart states that the chlorination continues out of an abundance of caution. KVSH News reported earlier that the City of Valentine began adding chlorine to the municipal water supply on November 14. Custer Public Power District Announces Planned Outage For Thedford, Seneca, Mullen.
The outage should begin around 2pm Thursday. According to officials with CPPD, there will be a planned power outage beginning at about 2pm Thursday, November 20. Deer Shot Illegally in Cherry County
KVSH radio confirmed with local Nebraska Game and Parks Conservation Officers that they are looking for information about the illegal killing of a white-tailed buck in Cherry County at McKelvie National Forest. The incident reportedly occurred around November 14th or 15th in Cherry County. The 15th was the opening of the firearm deer season in Nebraska. The number of athletes out for winter sports look strong in basketball and girls wrestling but are a little slimmer in boys wrestling. Retail Sales Up in July and August
Valentine did fairly well in retail sales in the months of July and August when compared to some other peer communities. In July Valentine had a slight bump in sales when compared to 2024 with a 5.7% increase. In August it took another slight increase of 6.3% compared to a year earlier. This Saturday will be the annual Holiday Preview event in Valentine, sponsored by the Valentine Chamber of Commerce. Some businesses will be open as early as 7AM and some will be open until 8PM.
