The City of Valentine is working on installing a new sewer interceptor line after decades of talk and planning.  City Manager Shane Siewart stated to KVSH News that “it’s been talked about since the 80’s!”

The project is intended to replace 3 lift stations and allow for eastward development which has also been discussed by council members for years.  The project will start at the treatment plant northeast of Valentine and extent south to a lift station near the Niobrara Lodge and then take a turn to an end point south of the Bunkhouse on Highway 20.

Equipment is in place to begin construction of the new line, which is expected to cross the old golf course by April.  The project is expected to be completed by the end of October of this year.  Carstensen Construction has the winning bid for the large project.

Siewart also stated that approximately 2.5 million dollars of the SRF loans being used to fund the project are forgivable, leaving about $7.5 million that Valentine’s taxpayers will be responsible for in the implementation of this $10 million dollar project.
