A couple items on the agenda for the Cherry County Commissioners revolved around property taxes at area churches that host for-profit day care providers on their properties. In a story on KVSH Radio last month, Pastor Gary Smith at the Presbyterian Church advised that after the church spent thousands of dollars making the space usable for the purpose of day care, the Cherry County Assessor approached them stating that the space being used for this purpose would be subject to property taxes.
At Tuesday's regular monthly meeting, Cherry County commissioners voted to allow the churches to remain tax exempt, although the County Assessor Melissa Bancroft advised against doing so.
