The shutdown of the federal government has reached day 7 after the U.S. Senate failed for a 5th time to vote to approve a continuing resolution to fund and reopen the government. Nebraska Senator Pete Ricketts told News Talk WJAG the loss of government services to every day Americans are starting to show up.
The Senate did not pass dueling bills authored by Republicans and Democrats. The Republican-backed measure, which would restore government funding until Nov. 21, was defeated by a vote of 52-42. It needed 60 votes to pass. The Democrat proposal lost by a vote of 50-45.
Ricketts said the longer the shutdown lasts, more government services will either be degraded or unavailable. Both Senator Rickets and Senator Fischer from Nebraska voted to support the Republican bill on all votes.
