“All Trails Lead to Art” was the theme for the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs 61st Annual Exhibition and Conference held in Ogallala, Nebraska. The Sand Painters Art Club was well-represented with eighteen pieces in the exhibition of nearly three hundred pieces. Idaho artist, Dallen Lambson, presented awards to seven of the Sand Painter artworks, which was the highest number of awards given to any single club this year. Members receiving Awards of Excellence were David Dorsey with acrylic painting, “Time and Memories,” Chana Orton with pencil drawing, “Fifty,” Priscilla Portenier with oil painting, “Winter Glory,” and Rick Yusten with oil painting, “No Place Like Nebraska.” Honorable Mention awards went to Ken Bennett with sculpture, “Copper Buffalo Skull,” David Dorsey with acrylic painting, “Cattle Crossing,” and Chana Orton with acrylic painting, “Last Light.” Additionally, Chana Orton’s “Last Light” received the Nebraska Life Award. Nebraska Life Magazine selects one artwork from the show that best captures the spirit, nature, and identity of the state and features it in an upcoming issue. The twenty-five Award of Excellence recipients will be featured in a travelling show across Nebraska over the next year. It is an amazing showcase of art from a variety of artists located across the state. Upcoming local dates include Valentine, Aug.13-Sept. 2; in Ainsworth, Sept. 3-Sept. 23; and O’Neill, Sept. 24-Oct. 14. For more information and a full list of tour dates, visit nebraskaartclubs.org.
