Parade of Lights Winners

The Valentine Chamber of Commerce helped with the annual Parade of Lights and Holiday Preview on Saturday.  Area shoppers had the opportunity to view some of the Christmas merchandise that Valentine merchants will have for the holidays. Don’t forget, if you don’t see what you are looking for, ask about ordering through a local business. Saturday evening there was the Parade of Lights on Main Street.  Despite a chilly evening, hundreds of people turned out to view the 18 entries in this year’s parade. Entries ranged from lit up horses, dogs and buggies to a snowplow and tractors.

 Taking First place in the float category was ‘Follow the Star” from the Valentine Berean Church.  2nd place was ‘The Greatest Story Ever Told” by Church of Jesus Christ of latter-Day Saints.  In the individual category, 1st place went to ‘Paws of Christmas Cheer” from the 4-H Dog Club.  2nd place was the Nebraska Department of Transportation with the lit up snow plow and snow blower. First place in each category receives $100 in Chamber Bucks and 2nd place get’s $50.

During this week the Chamber will continue with the business window decoration contest and the receipt drawing.  Vote in stores for you favorite window scene.

A reminder that this Friday is Black Friday and Saturday will be “Shop Small Town Saturday”.  Shop your local businesses!
