What happens to the thousands of tires collected during North Central Nebraska RC&D's tire amnesty events? Many of them get a second life. This year, Champlin Tire Recycling, which hauled away and recycled the tires collected at the amnesty events in Springview and O’Neill, generously donated two park benches made from recycled tires to the North Central Nebraska RC&D. The benches are a reminder that materials once considered waste can be turned into something useful for local communities. One bench will be donated to a veterans park or memorial within North Central RC&D's six-county service area, including Boyd, Brown, Cherry, Holt, Keya Paha, and Rock. The organization is accepting nominations for a location that would benefit from the bench as a place to sit, visit, and reflect while honoring those who have served our country. The recycled bench will serve as a lasting tribute to those who have served in our nation's Armed Forces. "The donation comes at a fitting time as we celebrate America's 250th anniversary,” said Mike Burge, RC&D Chairman. “Placing the recycled bench at a veterans memorial recognizes those whose service has shaped our nation's history." To nominate a veterans park or memorial, email information about the site, along with photos, to northcentralrcd@gmail.com by August 1st . A second bench will be awarded through a drawing to a North Central RC&D member who renews their membership by August 1st. Supporting the RC&D through membership means investing in projects that strengthen our communities and protect our natural resources. This year, membership renewal also gives the opportunity to help bring a recycled park bench to your community. It's another example of how recycling can come full circle—turning old tires into something that will be used and appreciated for years to come. For more information about the bench donation, membership renewal, or nomination process, contact North Central Nebraska RC&D at northcentralrcd@gmail.com.
