Mural Completed

Despite the several straight days of heat, work has now basically wrapped up on the large mural project on the South wall of Huskerland Hardware on the corner of 3rd and Main Streets in Valentine.

Lauren Olson of Oshkosh Nebraska has the $21-23,000 contract which is being paid for through grants from the local Pestel Foundation and Nebraska Arts. Olson had a little help this week from several members of the Sandpainters Art Club.  Known accomplices of Olson included Dave Dorsey, Joan Swim, Mary Mercure and Janine Holmes.  

 The mural depicts native Americans, the Niobrara River, Smith Falls and ranching heritage.  Area residents are invited to take a close look at the artwork to find subtle local ties.
