A local fund has been started for fire relief for the Anderson Bridge Fire in Cherry County. John Johnson and Carolyn Moore appeared on the KVSH Comment program Friday morning to release details of the effort. The Sandhills Area Foundation will accept donations that will first go to residents who suffered losses in the fire and then volunteer fire departments can apply for funds as well. Losses range from buildings, fences, homes, rangeland and others. After local needs are covered, any remaining funds can be sent to other areas that had wildfires.
These donations can be tax deductible. To donate, go to the sandhillsareafoundation.com website. You can also mail a donation to SAF, 103 North Cherry Street Valentine Nebraska, 69201. If you write a check, please jot “fire relief’ in the memo section. The foundation will act as a pass through medium to get the funds to local residents who apply.
They are still working out the application process, but for the time being, you can contact John Johnson at 402 322 1718 for assistance. To contact the foundation call Carolyn about donating, call 402 322 0031.
Cody Livestock in Cody and Danielski Farms in Valentine have agreed to be a drop-off location for fencing supplies for anyone who would like to donate those. Please Contact John Johnson to let him know what you are dropping off. At Danielski's you can drop off at the East side of the shop.
