While many across the country are battling the development of data centers, supporters believe the project makes good financial sense.

According to the Springview Herald, the Keya Paha County Commissioners on Tuesday, October 13, approved a conditional use permit allowing Wilson Mining to operate a Bitcoin mining facility at KBR Rural Public Power District’s underused Burton substation.  The article points out that this follows the county planning board’s 5-0 recommendation to do the same. While many across the nation are working to fight the development of A.I. and other tech centers, supporters of this project point out that the effort should cost the county nothing while adding to personal property taxes being paid into the county and may actually see more efficiency for ratepayers covering the cost of the Burton substation to help offset rising power costs.

At this time, zoning regulations are being drawn up to address and regulate data centers and other similar projects in Keya Paha County.

More details can be found in the October 21st edition of the Springview Herald.
