Thursday afternoon Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen rescinded the fire ban across the State of Nebraska but there was no mention of the campfire ban that has been in place since March 13.
Well that has changed as the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission announced later Thursday afternoon that they have lifted its ban on campfires.
The temporary ban was instituted on March 13 due to wildfires arising from dry conditions in the state but after recent rains across the state the decision was made to lift the ban.
Along with lifting the ban on campfires the game and parks has lifted their ban on prescribed burns.
This comes despite the latest drought monitor released Thursday saying that 100% of the state was in drought with 43% in D3-D4 drought which is considered extreme drought according to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln drought monitor.
Residents are still urge to use caution with anything that could cause a wildfire. It is still the choice of local fire chiefs if residents can burn in the open and a permit is required.
