Garage Fire Spreads To Home In Saturday Afternoon Blaze

The fire was reported at the home near mile marker 132 on south hwy 97 just after 1:30 Saturday.

Just after 1:30 Saturday afternoon, the Valentine Volunteer Fire Department and Cherry County Hospital Ambulance Service were requested to the report of a garage fire at the Justin and Kathy Hammond place at mile marker 132 on south Highway 97.  First responders got on scene a couple minutes later and advised that the garage was fully engulfed in flames.  The fire in the attached garage had also begun to spread into the house upon arrival. According to radio traffic, everyone was reportedly out of the house at that time.

The Cherry County Sheriff’s Office also responded, and the Nebraska State Fire Marshall’s Office has been contacted to investigate.

Firemen began returning to the fire hall just before 4pm.
