It is Fire Prevention Week across the country, and the theme this year is “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home” focusing on educating the public about safely buying, charging and recycling these batteries, and as part of the observance of Fire Prevention Week, the Valentine Volunteer Fire Department is suggesting that you install smoke detectors in your home if you’ve not done so already. According to the VFD, the chances of dying in a home fire are reduced by more than 50% when there’s a working smoke detector present in your home. In addition to installation of your smoke detectors, make sure you change those batteries with the spring and fall time changes. The fire department advises that if you need help checking or replacing your batteries or have any other questions, you can call them at 402-376-1700 and they’ll come and assist you.
We'll have more information on Fire Prevention Week and the Valentine Fire Department coming up, so keep checking back!
