KVSH News often reminds our listeners to be weary of scam calls and emails that come from dishonest individuals who are out to get your information, use your identity, and ultimately get your money.  While individuals are often the target of these scams, businesses and even government entities are not immune from fraud.

Following up on a listener tip, KVSH Radio learned that in late October, the City of Valentine received a fraudulent bill for service which claimed to come from a construction company claiming to be doing work for the city in relation to the large interceptor sewer project.  A payment of roughly $800,000 was made to the fake company, but according to city manager Shane Siewart, the mistake was quickly caught and was resolved immediately.  Siewart went on to say that because the fraud was recognized quickly, the city was able to get the money back from the transaction.

A reminder to everyone to be vigilant with your information, especially when it comes to phone calls, texts, and emails.
