CCH - Darkening skies and an incoming storm brought an unexpected challenge to the Cherry County Hospital Foundation’s annual Pancake and Sausage Breakfast Feed during the Cherry County Fair, but quick thinking and teamwork helped turn the morning into another successful fundraiser for local healthcare.

This year’s Pancake and Sausage Breakfast Feed brought in $3,457.30, with Modern Woodmen of America offering to match funds raised up to $2,500.00. With the full matching contribution, the event will generate $5,957.30 to support Cherry County Hospital and Clinic.

This year’s proceeds will help purchase new labor and delivery birthing beds for Cherry County Hospital, providing a more comfortable, modern environment for mothers while also supporting the healthcare team throughout the labor and delivery process.

The investment comes at an important time for Cherry County Hospital, as the number of families choosing to deliver at the hospital continues to grow. Cherry County Hospital has welcomed 95 babies so far in 2026, compared with 75 during the same period in 2025 and 40 in 2024. That represents more than double the number of births seen during the same period just two years ago.

The continued growth in labor and delivery services makes the new birthing beds an especially meaningful investment in local families. The beds will help provide a comfortable, welcoming environment for mothers while giving the healthcare team modern equipment to support patients throughout labor and delivery.

As the storm approached Saturday morning, Foundation members began preparing for the possibility of moving the breakfast indoors. About an hour into the pancake feed, the weather made it clear that a change in plans was necessary. The team quickly moved food and drinks indoors, set up tables and chairs inside the 4-H Building, and provided covering for the grill to keep the pancakes and sausages coming. Everyone worked together to keep the breakfast running smoothly.

Despite the weather, fair participants and community members continued to show up, enjoy breakfast and support the Foundation’s mission of strengthening healthcare close to home.

Events like the Pancake and Sausage Breakfast Feed and the Foundation’s annual golf tournament help raise funds for equipment, technology and other resources that enhance healthcare services for patients throughout the region.

The Cherry County Hospital Foundation extends its appreciation to everyone who attended the breakfast, made a donation, volunteered or helped spread the word. The Foundation also offers a special thank you to Modern Woodmen of America for its generous matching contribution and continued support of the community.

Those interested in supporting the future of healthcare in our community may make donations to the Cherry County Hospital Foundation by mailing them to 510 N. Green Street, Valentine, NE 69201.

Every gift, regardless of size, helps the Foundation continue investing in healthcare close to home.
