UPDATED: Fire North of Thedford Tuesday Burned 500+ Acres.

Fire officials in Thedford requested mutual aid from Valentine Volunteer Fire Department at about 3:15 on Tuesday afternoon. Amid critical fire weather conditions including temperatures in the low 80s, humidity readings around 10% and gusty winds, a grass fire just off of highway 83 north of Thedford near Cap Creek Road was moving quickly and threatening structures just south of the Court Hamilton place, according to radio traffic. Valentine fire officials reportedly sent 3 grass rigs as well as a tanker to help battle the blaze. Wood Lake Volunteer Fire Department is also sending assistance. As of 4:21pm, the fire, reported at 2:55pm CT had burned an approximate 400 acres.
The final report provided by fire officials tallied over 500 acres burned, but fire crews were able to save those structures that had been threatened.
It was reported that the fire was caused by a semi.
In addition to the Thedford, Valentine and Wood Lake departments that KVSH Reported on Tuesday, firefighters from Brownlee, Mullen, Johnstown, Halsey, Anselmo, Mullen, as well as Purdum, Johnstown, Dunning, Calamus, Ainsworth and Raven. There was also assistance provided by the forest service, as well as aerial suppression.
