The Valentine City Council held their regular monthly meeting on Thursday as well as their annual budget hearing. The council settled on a budget of $37,336-938.02, up considerably from the 26,734,582.39 for 2024-2025. According to City Manager Shane Seiwart, this increase is related to some big projects coming up including the proposed sewer interceptor line, the gym project and some airport projects, many of which will be largely reimbursed by grant dollars. While the budget reflected a sizeable increase, the tax request went down 7% from $430,000 to $399K. Total valuation went up from $255,637,474 to $264,967,111. Other items on the agenda last night were an updated fine schedule for violations of Valentine’s ordinances and an introduction by Tammy Lutter and Katy O’Keif of the Valentine Cat Rescue. One of their primary goals being to address the feral cat problem in Valentine.
The next regular meeting for the council is scheduled for Thursday, October 9th at 6pm.
