Open Plain Transit in Jeapordy

Open Plains Transit has informed KVSH News that they continue to struggle with getting reimbursement form Nebraska Department of Transportation to cover operating expenses for the past year. NDOT Public Assistance cited missing audit deadlines for 2024 and 2025 in declining the 1.3 million dollars reimbursement.

Open Plains has been actively working to complete the required audits and two separate firms are engaged in addressing and completing the work.

 There seems to be a break down in communication and without resolution of the 2026 reimbursement and and execution of a 2027 operating agreement, Open Plains Transit will cease operations effective September 30th.

The loss of these services would effect access to intercity bus and airline connections, healthcare, educations, Veterans services and more. Open Plains Transit is asking for Nebraska's elected and congressional officials to help bring this matter to resolution. Community members can contact those representatives to relay the importance of this rural transportation service.
