Moisture falling in north central Nebraska and south central South Dakota was a welcome sight Tuesday. Dry conditions were highlighted by two fires reported in the area late Monday. The first fire was reported to the Valentine Volunteer Fire Department northeast of town on Hatchery Road, burning 15-20 acres of grassland. Firemen were able to get that fire extinguished after less than an hour on scene. There was some mop-up after most of the firefighting rigs were released.
The next fire call came in just after 8:45pm in south central South Dakota when Rosebud Sioux Tribe Volunteer Fire Department was paged along with BIA Fire, Norris VFD, and local ranch rigs to a grass fire near the He Dog Community. That fire was extinguished before it was able to grow to over 2 acres.
The cause of both fires was unknown as of Tuesday afternoon.
