On the KVSH Comment program Wednesday morning, Valentine Economic Director Mark Hagge was our guest. Hagge has been working with a group of students from UNO called Scott Scholars, which is an offshoot from the Walter Scott Foundation. A total of 11 students has been discussing ideas to what could make Valentine “the most family friendly community in Nebraska’. One of the ideas was a clean-up of the city park and nature trails around the park area. The group of students was looking at ‘actionable steps’ that could be made. The plan is to involve the community in clearing overgrowth and generally tidy up the area this spring.
The group will visit with the city council about sending out a community survey to determine how much the park and surrounding area gets used by area residents.
Look for more information to come out soon.
Mr. Hagge also updated listeners on the community theater project reporting that fund raising has been going well and design plans have been finalized. Demolition has been completed, and they hope to start construction soon. The grassroots group hopes to open this late spring or summer.
