The Sand Painters Art Club recently hosted a captivating Open Art Show at the Cherry County Fair in Valentine, Nebraska. The event drew a crowd of art enthusiasts eager to appreciate the diverse talent on display. This year's show featured 55 pieces of art from 21 different artists, showcasing a wide range of styles and mediums. The judging for the show was expertly handled by Valentine High School art teacher, Victoria Schwab, who faced the difficult task of selecting winners from the impressive collection.

Best of Show was awarded to David Dorsey of Valentine for his stunning acrylic painting, “The Ghost in the Water.” Dixie Hasart of Wood Lake took first place with her oil painting, “Through the Storm,” while David Dorsey also secured second place for his acrylic, “She Rode a White Horse.” The third-place honor went to Linda Lacy of Ashby for her acrylic piece, “The Splendor of the Dance.”

Special awards were also presented to several artists for their exceptional work. Roberta Barnes of Halsey received the Heart of Art Award for her oil painting, “She’s A Wildflower.” The Kime Award went to Cindy Brader of Glenvil for her watercolor, “Chaps.” Joan Swim of Springview was honored with the Heelan Award for her oil painting, “In Her Element.” Teri Licking of Thedford received the Bestol Award for her photography piece, “His Final Ride,” and Chris Mosner of Valentine was given the Ballard Award for the photography piece, “Red, White, and Blue.”

The Sand Painters Art Club extends its sincere gratitude to all the artists who participated, the Cherry County Ag Society, and to everyone who attended the show, making it a resounding success. The club is already planning the next event and encouraging artists of all ages, any mediums, and any address to show art at the Valentine Public Library during the month of September.  The show theme is “Sky High”.  Display your colorful shy art; sunrises, sunset, dynamic shy scenes that you are proud of.  There is no fee.  Enter art Tuesday Sept 2, 3:30-5:30.
