The North Central RC&D met on Wednesday in Basett for a regular monthly meeting.  The board discussed the recent tire amnesty project in Valentine and has submitted grant applications for 2026 for Springview and O’Neill.  The Springview event would accept 400 tons of scrap tires, and the O’Neill grant is for 700 tons.  The RC&D won’t know until December if either of the grants are approved.

The recent paper shredding project along highway 20 resulted in 53 bins, or about 14,000 pounds of paper documents being shredded. About 3,380 pounds were shredded in Valentine. Residents of the Bassett area shredded over 3,000 pounds, Stuart 2,600 pounds, Atkinson had the largest turnout with 3,640 pounds going through the shredder.  There will be another paper shredding event starting in Ainsworth and Springview on October 20th.

The board is also discussing the need for electronic recycling in the 6 county area. If you have questions, contact Carla Stagemeyer at 402-340-1530
