New Golf Coaches Announced at VHS

Valentine Community Schools announced Shawna Houdek as Co-Head Girls Golf Coach for 2025-2026. Coach Houdek steps into the role after the retirement of longtime coach, Devin Muirhead. Houdek graduated from Valentine High School in 2013. Attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where she earned her Agriculture Education degree. Shawna moved back to Valentine in 2020 after accepting the second ag teacher position at the high school.

The schools also announced Ashley McSweeney as Co-Head Girls Golf Coach for 2025-2026. Ashley McSweeney grew up in Valentine and graduated from Valentine Rural High School in 2008 where she was part of a 2007 state championship golf team.  After High School, she attended Chadron State College where she received her teaching certificate and played golf for the Eagles. Ashley moved back to Valentine in 2017. Currently, she is the Early Childhood Special Education teacher for the district and coached the Middle School golf.

Brooks Coleman will assume the Head Boys Golf Coach for 2025-2026. Brooks Coleman, is a 2015 graduate of VHS, and has had a passion for the game of golf ever since he was a kid learning and playing out at Deer Park Golf Course. Brooks graduated from Valentine in 2015 as a three-time state qualifier, finishing 14th at the state tournament my senior year. After high school, he continued his golf career at Northeast Community College before. For the past four years, he had the chance to return home and serve as an assistant under Devin Muirhead—and plans to build on the proud tradition of Valentine golf.
