Meeting To Discuss Possible Nuclear Reactor Tuesday 4-6 at MPCC

The meeting will be at Mid Plains Community College Tuesday from 4-6

When you hear about nuclear power in Nebraska, most people will probably think about the Cooper Nuclear Station that’s located near Brownville, which is Nebraska’s only nuclear power plant.

However, there has been a lot of talk recently about next generation nuclear energy.  There will be a Coffee and Conversation event this evening from 4-6pm at MPCC in Valentine.  Valentine has been recognized as one of 16 locations that are being considered for installation of one of these new generators.  The discussion will revolve around the study and phases determining a final location for the new reactor, sometimes called a small modular reactor, or SMR.  There will also be discussion on the evolution of nuclear power and the safety factors involved in the new reactors.  You can also find more information from the study at nextgennuclearne.com
