Lightning Strike Ignites Tree

Wednesday Night's storms likely caused the single tree fire.

The cluster of thunderstorms that went through north central Nebraska a few nights ago likely caused a small fire reported to Cody and Kilgore Fire Departments at about 4:30 Mountain Time Thursday afternoon.  According to Kilgore Fire Chief Todd Rothleutner, the call was for a single tree on fire caused by a lightning strike.  The fire was reported in the Niobrara Canyon area south of Kilgore, and there was a truck in the area which was sent in to douse the fire, keeping it from spreading.
