The North Central Nebraska RC&D met on Wednesday in Bassett for a regular monthly meeting.  A few weeks ago, they announced that communities were invited to submit a nomination for a new bench for Veterans Parks or areas honoring veterans. During Wednesdays meeting, the Veterans Memorial Area at the Cherry County Justice Center in Valentine was selected to received the bench made of recycled tires.  Champlin Tires donated two of the benches to the RC&D to be given away this year after successful tire amnesty events in Springview and O’Neill.   Valentine was selected from among the nominees.

The other bench will be going to Spencer after a simple drawing from those entities that are members of the organization.  Each bench is valued at over $700.

In other business, the district applied for a 2027 tire amnesty grant for Ainsworth.   If the grant is awarded, it would be for 400 tons of old tires from the area.

The next meeting of the RC&D is September 9th.
