At the Monday meeting of the Cherry County Ag Society, Duane Witte submitted his letter of resignation, vacating his position as president of the group.

According to Vice President Jon Kime, the board had received a verbal resignation from Witte at the prior meeting but requested that the resignation be put in a written document which was provided on the March 16th.  Kime told KVSH News that he and the rest of the Cherry County Ag Society board thank Duane for all of his hard work and everything that he as done to help the organization.

Kime will be acting as President for now, with an election to fill the board with another officer and it will be decided at that time if he will be placed in the presidency for the remainder of the term or if there will be other changes to the board.  Kime did say that while all interested parties would be considered to fill the vacancy on the board, he and many of the current board members would like to see a female apply for the job.  Kime said that he feels that often times, a woman in that position tends to look at things differently and can provide valuable insight.

On another note, board member Neil Wescott will be taking over the fireworks display on America’s 250th birthday celebration this July 4th himself.  This means that the Ag Society will no longer be in charge of this years’ display.  If you would like to make any donations to this years’ display, you are asked to contact Mr. Wescott directly.
