Area Korean War Vets To Be Recognized By The State of Nebraska

Jerry Henderson, Dick Stiefel, Gilbert Witte, and LeRoy Graves from Cherry County are to be recognized by the Cherry County Veterans Service Office.

The State of Nebraska has minted a coin in recognition of the veterans of the Korean War across the state.  Rex Gallino and Cherry County Veterans’ Service Officer Ashley Blume presented Jerry Henderson’s on Friday, September 25^th at the nursing home in Bassett.  The Korean War Medals for Richard “Dick” Stiefel and Gilbert Witte will be presented on Wednesday, September 30  in front of the Cherry County Courthouse at 4pm.  The public is invited to help celebrate these two veterans of America’s “Forgotten War”.

LeRoy Graves is also one of the surviving Korean War vets from this area, and is in a nursing home in Norfolk.  His coin will be presented in the future at a date “To Be Announced”.
