The Kilgore Fire Department was paged to the report of a grass fire south of Kilgore on East Anderson Bridge Road just before 9am Central Time on Tuesday morning.  Mutual aid was requested to Cody and Valentine departments shortly after, and the initial attack plan involved aerial support as well.

Fortunately the Kilgore firemen, who were first on scene, were able to get the head fire extinguished quickly and began working on the rest of the fire to keep it from spreading.  Several Valentine and Cody trucks were cancelled before arriving on scene, and the SEAT plane was also cancelled.

According to radio traffic, there was consideration to evacuate some homes in the area.  However, the effective response of area firemen allowed area residents to stay in their homes.

Radio traffic from fire trucks working the fire indicated that there were at least a dozen poles down in the area, indicating that downed power lines were likely the cause of this blaze.
