A Saint Francis man has been sentenced in federal court after pleading guilty to assaulting a federal officer, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Dakota.

Ryan Leading Cloud, 29, was sentenced June 2 to time served through June 12, totaling about seven and a half months in custody. U.S. District Judge Eric C. Schulte also ordered him to serve three years of supervised release.

Leading Cloud pleaded guilty in March after being indicted by a federal grand jury in October 2025.

According to officials, the case stems from a July 2025 incident on the Rosebud Reservation. After being arrested for disorderly conduct and taken to the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Adult Correctional Facility, Leading Cloud spat on a corrections officer, striking the officer who had transported him.

Leading Cloud was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
