The St. Nicholas Knights of Columbus Council #4633, in partnership with the Nebraska State Knights of Colombus Culture of Life Foundation, has voted to donate funds to the Cherry County Hospital Foundation to help cover the remaining cost of a new ultrasound machine for the hospital and clinic.

The donation will support the purchase of a GE Venue Fit point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) machine, replacing the hospital’s previous unit that was purchased in 2019 and has reached the end of its typical 5–7 year lifespan

Grand Knight Justin Hartman said the decision to donate was rooted in the council’s commitment to supporting the unborn and living, especially in a rural community where access to medical services can be limited.

Cherry County Hospital has experienced a sharp rise in OB ultrasound exams following the suspension of labor and delivery services at Winner Regional Health in South Dakota on February 1, 2025. Since that time, Cherry County Hospital has performed 463 OB ultrasound exams, compared to 274 exams during the same period in 2024—a 69 percent increase.

The Knights of Columbus’ donation reflects their ongoing mission to support life, healthcare, and the well-being of families throughout Cherry County.
