Equine EHV-1 Puts Hold on Events

The rodeo and horse world have been put on hold with an outbreak of EHV-1 virus in horses.  KVSH News talked with Lindsey Adamson Taylor, who is originally from Cody and is currently finishing her veterinarian residency. A complete interview can be heard on Thursday’s Rodeo Round Up on KVSH at 5:15. Taylor reported the virus was apparently first found in Texas but spread to many other states when horses at that event traveled to other events. The respiratory illness has been confirmed in at least 26 animals that had potential contact with over a thousand other horses.

The Prairie Circuit Finals Rodeo was one event among hundreds that had to be cancelled or postponed.  The disease can cause long-term problems in some animals. In partnership with the Nevada Department of Agriculture and the Texas Animal Health Commission, Las Vegas Events and the PRCA have released updated equine health guidelines for the 2025 NFR.
