From City of Valentine Facebook page: To ensure the safety and quality of our drinking water, we will be temporarily adding chlorine to the water supply starting on November 14, 2025 as a precautionary measure to disinfect the water system. Recent routine testing identified a limited number of positive results for coliform bacteria in the distribution system. While these hits are isolated and often naturally occurring, we are taking proactive action to sanitize the mains and ensure all bacteria are eliminated. During this period, some customers may notice a slight change in the taste or smell of their tap water. This is normal and indicates that the disinfection process is working as intended. The water remains safe to drink and use for all purposes (cooking, bathing, laundry, etc.).
Recommended actions:
• Refrigerate water: Filling a pitcher of tap water and refrigerating it for a few hours can help the chlorine smell dissipate.
• Aerate water: Running water through an activated carbon filter (like a common pitcher filter) can also reduce the taste and odor of chlorine.
• Sensitive uses: Individuals with highly sensitive fish or reptiles should continue to take necessary precautions to neutralize chlorine residuals before using tap water in their tanks.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your cooperation.
